Avid Kiteboarders turned publishers!

Ceala Hanson and Therese Thomas were just a few of a very small group of women in Australia kiteboarding. About a year ago they came up with the concept of writing a newsletter to let other women who kite know that there were more of them out there. Both of them had been kiting for several years, and found that the majority of the time they have either been the only girl on the beach or in the minority - sound familiar?

Creating the newsletter was their way to keep in touch, to share experiences, a way to voice fears, learn from others, get in touch with other female kiters or women doing other sports and to celebrate being women. They’ve also found that since getting to know so many other female kiters beyond emails and the beach, that through good times and bad there is always support and encouragement if you need it.

Caela and Therese have published 5 issues in one year -- a great feat for anyone publishing a magazine, especially with no budget! The covers of their first and latest issues:

With the last edition topping over 20 pages of text and photos (with no advertising or funding!), Caela and Therese's Soulfly is starting to bridge oceans and continents. This is no longer a humble newsletter but a legitimate publication!

Each edition provides more challenges and new avenues to explore, and the two creators welcome anyone who wants to contribute or suggest what they would like to see!

To read the newsletter, log onto www.kitepower.com.au or www.nswkba.com.au both of which have all the back editions on the websites.

Or, you can download the latest edition in PDF format, from womenskiteboarding.com here!
