Because Kiteboarding is turning into a very popular sport, and continues to grow rapidly, the goal of this event is to:
· promote the accessibility of this sport to all water sport enthusiasts by the use of free clinics and exhibitor demos
· organize a major Kitesurfing contest in South East USA open to pro & amateur riders
· introduce the safety aspects of the sport by demonstrating appropriate safety guidance and behavior to a broad and growing number of Kiteboarding community.
WKA Events
The WKA puts on about 8 day clinics per season and 3 multi-day destination camps per year for girls and women. Clinics run from $25 for a 2-hour group clinic up to $950 for multi-day intensive-instruction camps.
As part of our mission to bring more women into the sport to learn in a comfortable, progressive format, we try to make clinics and camps as affordable as possible. We charge to cover our expenses and put on a safe and fun clinic. Kiteboarding instruction is expensive due to gear, insurance, beach access, quality personal instruction, and safety measures put in place for students to have a comfortable lesson. We are fortunate to have great sponsors that help us put on these clinics by providing us with gear and support.
Here are some of the clinics that we frequently hold:
Beginner Kite Skills Session
For those completely new to kite flying and kiteboarding, this clinic will teach fundamental kite basics including the wind window, 4-line inflatable kite setup, safety measures and systems, and mastering the launching, landing, and maneuvering of your kite.
Beginner Waterstart Session
For riders still establishing and perfecting their board skills and not yet riding upwind. This clinic will focus on getting you to ride and stay upwind, and ride back and forth consistently.
Intermediate & Advanced Riders Session
For women riders who can stay upwind and want to learn more advanced techniques and maneuvers. This clinic is for women who are just starting to transition, jump, execute simple spins or rolls, as well as more advanced moves such as grabs, unhooked, and power maneuvers. Coaching will be one-on-one, and will focus on each individual rider's goals.
Grab Girls! Session, TBD
Incorporating board grabs adds style and strength to your riding. This clinic will walk through front and back hand grabs, how to make them, and how to tweak your grabs for your own style. Definitely a fun clinic!
